Our HIV Early Detection Test can detect an HIV infection as early as 6 days after exposure and is conclusive if taken 9-11 days post exposure. This blood test detects the antibodies to HIV, if present. Our physicians recommend testing a full 2 weeks after exposure to ensure the highest accuracy. Testing for HIV antibodies is the only way to know whether you have been infected; however, the HIV antibody test only works after the infected person’s immune system develops antibodies to HIV. Our Recent Exposure STD Panel offers testing for 8 of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. This panel of tests will detect previous exposure to hepatitis B & C, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and genital herpes as well as testing for recent exposure to HIV. HIV antibodies can be detected between 2-6 weeks after exposure.

Herpes Tests Are Not Always Accurate

Genital herpes is a very common STD caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2. This test can detect HIV 2 to 6 weeks from the time of exposure. The first outbreak usually occurs within a few weeks after infection with the virus. A blood test can detect antibodies (proteins that are produced by the body in response to a foreign substance) to HSV type 1 and type 2. It is also possible for a person to develop genital herpes after exposure to a cold sore on an infected person’s lip during oral sex; in this case, genital herpes may be due to infection with HSV type 1.
